A new GAC crossover has been introduced that will challenge the Geely Atlas

A presentation of the GS4 Max model took place in China, which is aimed at a youth audience and will cost from 100 thousand yuan (14 thousand dollars). The new GAC is a redesigned Emkoo of the 2022 model: the body frame, side panels, interior, chassis and common components. The exterior design and equipment differ, so buyers will be able to save money.

GAC marketers want to repeat the Geely idea with Emkoo and GS4 Max with the new Atlas and Atlas Cool. All four models play in the same class and are aimed at the same audience. However, the differences between Emkoo and GS4 Max are even smaller: the wheelbase is the same (2750 millimeters), and the interior architecture is the same. The new GAC can be identified by its simplified central deflectors, different design of the transmission selector and finishing materials.

Due to the different body kit, the GS4 Max is half a centimeter longer than the Emkoo. From the outside, the models cannot be confused: the “four” received different lighting equipment, a matrix radiator grille in the spirit of modern Hyundais and original bumpers. At the rear, the new product is most easily recognized by its composite lights with a full-width LED strip and the absence of simulated exhaust.

There is nothing new in terms of technology: the GAC GS4 Max is equipped with a 177-horsepower 1.5 turbo engine coupled with a preselective “robot” and front-wheel drive. The basic Emkoo has the same hardware, but there are other versions, but the GS4 Max will be offered with no alternative technology. Probably, the initial configuration will also be a little simpler, because the “four” will be 20 percent cheaper than the Emkoo.

In Russia, the GAC Emkoo will appear this year, and with unique technology: for our country, the crossover will be added with all-wheel drive. Export prospects for the GS4 Max are unclear: a Chinese presentation must take place first. It is interesting that the Geely representative office will officially bring both versions of the Atlas to Russia: the original model and the more affordable Cool version.
