The Russian Guard shared details about its recent discovery in the very center of St. Petersburg. During a survey of the water area and hydraulic structures of the Neva for the presence of explosive objects, an old car was discovered at the Bronze Horseman pier. It was possible to establish that this is a Moskvich-403, which ended up in the river as a result of an accident that occurred in the 60s of the last century.

It is reported that Russian Guard divers discovered a Moskvich-403 covered with silt and fouling at a depth of six meters. “The Russian Guard examined the find and came to the conclusion that the car body does not pose a danger to navigation or hydraulic structures,” the department said in an official statement.

The Moskvich-403 model was produced at the Moscow Small Car Plant (MZMA) from 1962 to 1965. Externally, it almost exactly repeated the M-407, with the exception of the front panel, subframe and design of the rear lights. This Moskvich was equipped with a 1.4-liter gasoline engine producing 45 horsepower.

On classified sites you can find advertisements for the sale of such cars – prices for examples in excellent condition can reach five million rubles. However, the find of the Russian Guard, which has lain in the Neva for more than five decades, cannot be restored.

The Moskvich brand was revived in 2022 after the French automaker Renault left Russia. The new “Muscovites” were “registered” at the Moscow plant, which previously belonged to the French. Now “Muscovites” are slightly modified models of the Chinese JAC.
