DR Automobiles was fined six million euros by local authorities for re-labeling cars imported from China and selling them as its own. She was accused of deliberately misleading customers by not specifying the origin of the DR and Evo models. In fact, these were Chery Tiggo 2 and Tiggo 4.

Reuters reports that Chery Tiggo 2 and Tiggo 4 were delivered from China in finished form, and DR Automobiles changed the emblems to their own, renaming the crossovers DR and Evo. An investigation was initiated, during which the true origin of the cars was established, and the investigation concluded that with this approach, DR Automobiles could not position itself as an Italian manufacturer.

There was a second accusation against the company, which related to after-sales service. It turned out that the service division of DR Automobiles did not supply spare parts in the required quantities, which could potentially lead to a violation of consumer rights.

Chery was not the only supplier to DR Automobile. In addition to cars of this brand, the Italians sold JAC and BAIC models under other names, in particular, the BJ40 SUV, which is also presented in its original form in Russia. Now this model is not on the DR Automobile website: the fact is that it was sold under the name Ickx K2, which did not please the famous racer Jacqui Ickx.

Earlier, the Italian authorities were unhappy with the name of another car – the new Alfa Romeo Milano model. This is an entry-level compact crossover, produced in Poland. In Italy they decided that since the car was not assembled in its native country, it should not bear the name of an Italian city. As a result, Alfa Romeo had to rename the model Junior.
