Automakers from the Middle Kingdom are entering traditional segments for the Russian brand, “breaking through” the scrappage rate with the help of large discounts. This was reported to Interfax by the head of AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, who has repeatedly asked the state for help in countering the “Chinese.” According to him, brands from China are aggressively expanding into the domestic market.

First of all, Chinese brands are entering the market territory of Lada Vesta, AvtoVAZ’s flagship. Its price now varies from 1,239,900 to 2,380,900 rubles. For 1,970,000 rubles, taking into account discounts, you can buy, for example, a 2023 Chery Tiggo 4 Pro.

The Chinese provide customers with discounts that exceed the amount of the recycling fee – a one-time amount paid for each car. According to Sokolov, this state of affairs does not in any way encourage them to localize production in Russia.

AvtoVAZ is moving in accordance with the production plan for this year – half a million cars, the head of the company assured. All three lines are fully loaded and produce one Lada Vesta, Granta or Niva every 26 seconds.

In May, AvtoVAZ will launch an Izhevsk site where Lada Largus will be produced. It will be joined by the electric e-Largus in the third quarter. Also scheduled for this year is the start of production of the Lada Aura, which will hit the assembly line in Tolyatti in August.

In March, at least eight brands managed to announce big discounts on their cars. Changan, FAW, Tank, Geely, JAC, Chery, Jetour and Moskvich have become more affordable for Russians in some trim levels, but the size of the discounts reaches 500-700 thousand rubles.
