The American team Hoonigan, which in addition to preparing cars for racing, also runs its own blog, presented a new episode of its project This vs. That as part of the Off-Road spin-off. In the new straight race, bloggers continue the theme of off-road races with the participation of non-standard vehicles – this time the duelists were the “short” Ram 1500 TRX pickup with a powerful compressor V8 and the Polaris NorthStar UTV all-terrain vehicle.
Instead of pure power, race organizers in such duels give the power-to-weight ratio. The 2023 Ram 1500 TRX has a rating of 0.125, powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The drive is, of course, all-wheel drive. However, there is a nuance – if the factory Ram 1500 TRX has a double cab, then the pickup truck participating in the race has a single cab, which allowed to reduce weight.
However, the Polaris NorthStar is even lighter, but also significantly weaker – a liter engine with a power of about 100 horsepower in conjunction with a CVT and all-wheel drive provides a power-to-weight ratio of only 0.035. Naturally, the all-terrain vehicle is inferior to its rival in this indicator, but off-road the UTV feels more confident than a much larger and heavier vehicle.
