A “budget” modification of the “battery-powered” SUV with the prefix eDrive20 debuted in Germany. The new product differs from the original BMW iX1 xDrive30 in its power plant: now there is a single electric motor at the front (204 horsepower, 247 Nm), although the traction battery is the same (64.7 kilowatt-hours). The autonomy has increased and amounts to 430-475 kilometers, depending on the equipment and wheel size.

Of course, the base BMW iX1 is slower than the original all-wheel drive model: the acceleration time from zero to 100 kilometers per hour has increased by three seconds (to 8.6 seconds), the top speed has been reduced to 170 kilometers per hour (-10 km/h). But the Bavarian electric crossover has fallen in price by 13 percent and now costs from 47,900 euros.

The initial version has few external differences: wheels with a high profile, a different decor of the plug that imitates a radiator grille. The electric car is not equipped with branded blue inserts, but the equipment package cannot be called poor: you don’t have to pay extra for dual-zone climate control, auto parking, a digital cockpit with a 10.7-inch touchscreen and the iDrive 9 operating system.

In Europe, the base BMW iX1 will appear at dealers in November. The new product is unlikely to become a market bestseller, because the larger Tesla Model Y crossover costs 2,000 euros less, and the American electric car is more dynamic and longer-range.
