The BD11 electric bus will probably become an iconic double-decker transport, says the CarNewsChina portal. BYD’s advantage is price: British journalists found that the Chinese brand’s electric bus is 20 percent cheaper than competitors from the United Kingdom and costs £400,000. The savings per batch of 100 units are large: around ten million pounds!

The characteristics of the BYD BD11 are at the level: two electric motors develop 408 horsepower, and a battery with a capacity of 532 kilowatt-hours allows you to travel up to 640 kilometers without recharging. From a 500-kilowatt charging station via a pantograph on the roof, the electric bus is charged from 0 to 100% in just two hours. The cabin is designed for 90 passengers, and the overall length of the bus is 11 meters.

The average London bus travels no more than 200 miles (320 kilometers) per day, meaning there shouldn’t be any problems with charging. The previous purchase of double deckers resulted in the victory of diesel-electric hybrids from Wrightbus: New Routemaster buses were purchased in 2011. London authorities plan to phase out diesel vehicles completely by 2030, and BYD could become the British capital’s main partner if politics does not intervene.

People started talking about the takeover of the European urban transport market by Chinese electric buses last year. Yutong is in the lead, and BYD’s joint venture with the British Alexander Dennis Limited is in second place. Mercedes-Benz electric buses were only in third place.
