In May, for the most popular cars of popular brands from China – Geely, Chery and Haval – sellers began asking 5-9 percent less. TASS writes about this with reference to a study by Otkritie Bank and the Autohub company. The most noticeable decrease in price in absolute and percentage terms was the Geely Monjaro. According to experts, the reason for the fall in prices is the growing range of Chinese cars on the primary market.

The saturation of the market with new Chinese cars has finally begun to influence pricing on the secondary market, the study notes. Of the top 20 most popular models, 13 fell in price by 2-5 percent.

Also, at the end of spring, the price of the Lada Niva fell by four percent, and the Kia Rio, Hyundai Solaris and Creta fell in price by 2-3 percent. Demand for domestic SUVs has traditionally fallen with the improvement of the weather, and for “Koreans” – due to the appearance of new Russian-assembled Solaris.

However, in the first days of June, buyers were more active than in May. The matter is in anticipation of the next increase in the recycling fee, which threatens new increases in prices. When this will happen – in the summer or closer to the autumn surge in sales – is still unclear.

Earlier, the Ministry of Economic Development assured that the upcoming adjustment to the recycling fee will not affect the cost of cars, but will support the domestic market. Before this, the ministry supported the idea promoted by AvtoVAZ to significantly increase the recycling fee for foreign cars. And the Federation Council even proposed increasing the rate every year, bringing it to a million by 2030.
