Dizzying Pikes Peak Ride Shown Through the Eyes of a Driver

In 2024, the 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race was held in Colorado, in which, among others, American photographer, filmmaker and huge motorsports fan Jeff Zwart took part. A member of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Hall of Fame, winner of the US Rally Championship and Baja 1000 championship titles, captured in first person his journey from the start at 2,860 meters above sea level to the finish at 4,300 meters.

The 8-time Pikes Peak winner this time got behind the wheel of a 700-horsepower Porsche 935. Not the classic one, but the modern version of “Moby Dick” released in 2018 – a limited-edition sports car based on the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport. The new model received a body made of fiber-reinforced plastic and was equipped with exterior parts from the racing 919 Hybrid, 911 RSR 911 GT3 R.

Pikes Peak: Electric Car First Again

The Porsche 935 is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine from the 911 GT2 RS. The power output of the unit is 700 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque, and it is combined with a 7-speed PDK robotic gearbox. The 935 is equipped with the Porsche Stability Management stabilization system, racing brakes with separate circuits, 380-mm discs at the front and 355-mm at the rear, a limited-slip differential, a safety cage, and six-point belts.

One of the 77 Porsche 935s produced, valued at €701,948, was driven to Pikes Peak by Jeff Zwart. The driver filmed his race on a GoPro Hero12 Black camera, which was mounted on the driver’s helmet, allowing one to see the race through the 156 blind corners virtually through the eyes of the athlete.
