General Motors Defense has unveiled a military electric SUV concept that is actually a variant of the GMC Hummer EV pickup truck for the US Army.

The electric vehicle is similar to the ISV tactical combat vehicle, based on the Chevy Colorado ZR2 pickup truck introduced in 2020, but it’s a very different beast – bigger, supposedly heavier, and more importantly, it’s all-electric.

From a technical point of view, we have an electric GMC Hummer EV pickup truck. This means that it is equipped with three electric motors capable of producing a total of 1000 horsepower. The energy for them comes from a massive 205 kWh battery.

A GM Defense spokesman said the pickup can travel 300 miles on a full charge and is equipped with a 12kW diesel generator.

But the cabin has nothing to do with the GMC Hummer EV: inside you will find a roll cage that protects the driver and five passengers in the event of a rollover.

Fox Performance shocks have replaced the standard air suspension system, the braking system has been upgraded for heavy-duty use, and the approach and departure angles have been improved for improved off-road capability. It also features 37″ tires and a 46″ gun ring.

It is extremely unlikely that the EMCV (as the prototype was called) will enter the civilian market, as the original Humvee did in the early 1990s. However, it is interesting to see how an electric propulsion system designed for civilian use will be used in the military.
