Ford to Revive Capri as Electric Crossover

From 1968 to 1986, Ford’s European division introduced the Capri, an inexpensive fastback coupe that became the Old World equivalent of the best-selling Ford Mustang for the American market. The car used components from the Ford Cortina and, combined with a low price and bright design, the model became one of the most popular – about 1.9 million copies were sold during production. And in 2024, the iconic name will return to the market.

The Blue Oval has launched an unusual advertising campaign that doesn’t directly name the new model, but it does contain many hidden references to the Ford Capri and the fact that it will be an electric car. The advert introduces a certain firm called Comeback Cars, founded in 1969, which “restores icons to their legendary status by reimagining them for a new era. With 55 years of experience, our team has restored 1,986 classic coupes.”

If you click on the number on WhatsApp, a “conversation” with a bot begins, sending you a teaser image of the new car with its headlight. The WhatsApp account even lists the website of a fictitious restoration company, which strangely displays photos of a classic Alfa Romeo GTV and a Russian GAZ-21 sedan.

According to the available data, the Ford Capri of the 21st century will be a modification of the Volkswagen ID.4 — the American automaker closely cooperates with the German concern — with a different body and its own interior. The premiere of the model should take place on July 10.
