Geely added “aspirated” and “mechanical” to the Coolray crossover

The Chinese brand has revealed details about the simplified Super Edition. The pre-restyling Geely Binyue (sold in Russia under the name Coolray) will receive an unexpected upgrade: instead of the 1.5 turbo engine, a naturally aspirated engine of the same volume will appear under the hood, and the 7DCT robotic gearbox will be replaced with a 5-speed manual or CVT with simulated eight gears.

In Russia, a deeply modernized Geely Coolray with a four-cylinder engine has been sold since last year, and the 2018 crossover is now called the BelGee X50. In China, the original model managed to survive its restyling, and now reengineering is on the way – the Coolray will receive the filling from the “sister” Emgrand sedan!

The specification of the motor is not named, but it is known: the unit will develop 93 kilowatts (127 horsepower) and 152 Nm of torque. Most likely, we are talking about a naturally aspirated BHE15-AFD engine with direct injection and a displacement of 1499 cubic centimeters. Thus, Geely will simplify the old crossover and avoid competition between models. They promise to reduce the starting price to 60 thousand yuan (8.3 thousand dollars).

Other features of the Super Edition version are a discreet design without red sporty accents, the absence of four exhaust pipes (now a “secret” exhaust), simplified wheels measuring 215/60 R17 and an adjusted interior. The central tunnel has been changed (the gear selector is moved away from the driver), bright stitching and a 12.3-inch touchscreen have been abandoned – now only 8-inch.

For Russians, the upgrade of the “old” Geely Coolray is interesting because the original model was registered at the BelGee plant. In addition, the Geely Emgrand sedan is available not with a CVT, but with a classic automatic transmission: who knows, maybe Coolray will also get more conservative technology over time and become even more popular?
