The Chinese holding company shared details about Aegis cells: advanced batteries that excel in energy density, overall dimensions, charging speed and endurance at low temperatures. The resource is also impressive: the declared service life is 3,500 charge/discharge cycles, which corresponds to a range of over one million kilometers.

The Geely Aegis lithium iron phosphate battery is 40% shorter than a traditional battery, reducing internal resistance and heat generation. Also, compact dimensions allow for more efficient use of space. The energy density is 192 Wh per kilogram, which is a very good indicator.

Geely claims that the new cells are minimally degraded, which will reduce carbon emissions by 80 thousand tons per year. There is no explanation as to how the calculation was made. But it is promised that charging from 10 to 80% will take 17 minutes, which is almost one and a half times faster than the charging speed of conventional batteries. At -30’C, Aegis cells lose only 9.46% of capacity, while current batteries retain only 78.96% of capacity in such frost.

Geely batteries have passed stress tests: immersion in sea water, a load of 26 tons, firing by fire, side impact and cold testing. For all parameters, better values were achieved than those prescribed by the national standard of China. And most importantly, ordinary buyers will soon be able to test the battery: the Galaxy E5 crossover will be the first to receive Aegis cells.
