Hyundai may release a pickup truck based on Creta

The company is allegedly already developing a compact truck, which will be located one step below the 4.97-meter [Santa Cruz](https://motor.ru/news/santa-cruz-update-18-03-2024.htm), which is based on the Tucson. Hyundai is preparing the car specifically for the emerging markets of Brazil, Argentina, South Africa and India, where small pickup trucks are in demand. Brazilian media are predicting its debut in 2026 or 2027 and a line of power units from Creta.

The idea of turning the Creta into a pickup truck is not new. Back in 2016, Hyundai showed the Creta Sport Truck Concept (STC) at the auto show in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It reached 4.68 meters in length, 1.85 in width, and 1.63 in height with a wheelbase of 2.8 meters. That is, the pickup truck was noticeably larger than the first-generation Creta that was current at that time.

The new truck will be based on the “second” Creta and is expected to share a range of engines with it: engines with a power of up to 157 horsepower (up to 166 horsepower on ethanol) and turbodiesels producing up to 115 horsepower. The interior architecture will also be copied from the crossover, adjusted for the form factor.

This isn’t the only pickup truck Hyundai is working on. Recently, the Korean manufacturer filed applications to register the names Ioniq T10 and Ioniq T7, which could go to battery-powered pickups of different sizes.

Subsidiary Kia is also going to release a pickup truck: it is expected that it will be able to compete with the Ford Ranger and will be called Tasman. The new product will be built on the basis of the Kia Mohave and equipped with a V6 turbodiesel, which develops 277 horsepower in an SUV.
