Autostat shared estimates of car sales in January 2024 – the month has not yet ended, so the data is preliminary. Analysts expect that in the first month of the year the volume of the primary car market will be 80 thousand cars: this is seven percent less than in January last year, but 80 percent more than in January the year before. Lada is the market leader, with a share of approximately 28 percent in total sales.

Autostat also publishes a ranking of the most popular brands in the country. Lada is in first place, followed by Chinese Haval, Geely and Chery, which occupy second, third and fourth places, respectively. Changan closes the top five. The top ten included Exeed, Omoda, Tank, Lixiang and Kia. The latter still does not officially sell cars in Russia, however, according to, in December and January, Kia Seltos and Soul, produced at the Kaliningrad Avtotor, began to be shipped to dealers again. According to the title, these are cars manufactured in 2022.

According to forecasts from major dealers, some Chinese brands may leave Russia during 2024. Thus, Borisohof believes that the investments required to gain a foothold in the market will increase, and not all manufacturers “who happily came to Russia” will be able to cope with the costs against the backdrop of low sales volumes.

In addition to cars officially presented on the Russian market, the statistics also take into account cars imported through parallel imports. Most often, Volkswagen and Toyota models enter the country through “gray” routes. The priority is Volkswagen Jetta, Toyota Camry and Mazda CX-4.
