The corresponding statistics were cited by the President of the Russian Association of Auto Dealers Alexey Podshchekoldin during a press conference. According to the expert, from January to June, Russians paid 2.59 billion rubles for new cars, which amounted to 37 percent of the total number of purchases. The remaining transactions were for used vehicles.

Podshchekoldin expects that by the end of the year the automobile market in Russia will grow to 15 trillion rubles. Last year this figure was 12.64 trillion rubles. At the same time, only 3.37 billion rubles, or 27 percent, were new cars.

The expert also noted that the country is seeing a decline in purchasing power. At the same time, the cost of cars continues to rise steadily.

Last month, Russians’ spending on new cars in May became known. According to Avtostat, the country’s residents spent 73 percent more than in the same period last year.
