The Italian brand admitted that some crossovers have defective rivets that secure the hood locks. As a result, a gap may form between the hood and bumper, and at speeds above 94 mph (151 km/h), the hood may swing open due to the oncoming air flow. At least one such case has already occurred: a recall has now been initiated.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the start of a recall campaign. Dealers will begin to be notified on June 21, and owners of problem cars – no later than July 5. There are 2,133 Urus S and Urus Performante crossovers at risk, but the Italian brand believes that only two percent of cars actually have the wrong rivets installed.

Lamborghini Urus owners may notice a problem if they take a close look at the gap between the carbon fiber hood and the fender: if the rivets are too tight from the factory, the hood will not fit tightly. Dealers will check the parts and replace the rivets and backing plate free of charge. One of the Indonesian owners of the crossover managed to open the hood at high speed, which became the reason for the investigation.

Production of the non-hybrid Urus S and Urus Performante will soon cease: only the petrol-electric version SE will remain in the range. Lamborghini technical director Rouven Mohr calls the hybrid more versatile and comfortable, but almost as fast on the race track.
