The special edition model is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Robbe & Berking, a famous manufacturer of silverware and yachts. In the early 2000s, Oliver Berking restored the racing sailboat SPHINX 12mRН, which later became the reason for the founding of the Robbe & Berking Classics shipyard. The Mercedes-Maybach S 680 sedan received a two-tone body paint and a snow-white leather interior.

The Mercedes-Maybach department presented a gift to Robbe & Berking, a famous manufacturer of silverware and yachts. In honor of its 150th anniversary, a special Mercedes-Maybach S 680 was created. The sedan was styled to resemble the legendary racing yacht SPHINX 12mRН, the first classic wooden vessel restored by the Robbe & Berking Classics shipyard. Like the SPHINX, the “eska” received a two-tone body: the top is painted in dark blue “metallic” Nautical Blue, the bottom – in “manufactured” enamel Patagonia Red Bright. Between them is a thin strip of Opalite White, reminiscent of the waterline.

The Maybach’s seats are trimmed in white nappa leather with diamond stitching, and leather is also used on the roof, doors, dashboard and in the compartment under the central display. The decorative inserts are made of walnut veneer and aluminum, which makes them look like the deck of a yacht. The sedan is equipped with rear door closers, MANUFAKTUR door sills, a Burmester audio system, an entertainment system for rear passengers and a refrigerator, which contains silver Robbe & Berking glasses. They have been offered as an option since 2002, and, according to Mercedes-Maybach, the glasses are becoming increasingly popular among customers.

SPHINX was built in 1939 by Abeking & Rasmussen for the North German Regatta Association. The vessel went under various names and was used for training officers of the German Navy from 1958 to 2004. The sailboat was the fastest yacht at the Flensburg Regatta nine times. In 2005, Oliver Berking bought it and together with his friends restored it to its original specification. Later, the Robbe & Berking Classics shipyard was founded, which specializes in the restoration of classic boats.
