The brand, part of the SAIC concern, showed the EXE181 show car. This is a single-seat hypercar with a streamlined silhouette, a very low coefficient of aerodynamic drag and an installation with four electric motors that accelerates it from zero to “hundreds” in 1.9 seconds. The concept is dedicated to the MG EX181 prototype from the middle of the last century and intends to break its record – reach a speed of more than 410 kilometers per hour.

The modern MG EXE181 has a single-seat cockpit with a butterfly steering wheel with an integrated display, a transparent front and wheel covers, developed wings, a long tail and active flaps.

The drag coefficient is 0.181, which is the same as the number in the name of the 1959 record holder. This figure is better than that of production cars, but is inferior, for example, to the 2022 Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX with a coefficient of 0.17. And for EX181 it was allegedly equal to 0.12.

The maximum speed of EXE181 is not disclosed. However, MG promised that the show car would “challenge the land speed record.” EX181, nicknamed “The Roaring Raindrop” for its shape, reached speeds of 410 kilometers per hour in 1959. Phil Hill, the future Formula 1 champion, was driving.

The full premiere of EXE181 will take place at the Beijing Auto Show, which starts on April 25. In the summer, the hypercar will be brought to the Festival of Speed in England’s Goodwood.

MG finally reached the Russian market in mid-April. The debut of the brand, whose interests will be represented by two distributors, took place in Moscow on April 12. Sales will start with the MG5 sedan, then HS, ZS and liftbacks with indexes 6 and 7 will be brought to Russia.
