Peugeot adds automatic transmission to Boxer family after 18 years

Since 2006, vans, minibuses and trucks have been produced with an unchanged body, and the fourth generation of the model de facto represents a deep restyling of the third. Now Peugeot Boxer has received the long-awaited 8-speed automatic: the gearbox with a torque converter is more durable, which allowed to increase the load capacity to five tons and increase the torque to 450 Nm (+ 80 Nm).

The external restyling of the family took place last autumn, but the main technical update was left for later. Now the Peugeot Boxer is available not only with a 6-speed manual, but also with a proven 8-speed automatic. Both units are combined with a 2.2 turbodiesel (140 or 180 hp).

The brand’s press service points out that vans with an automatic transmission are more comfortable for the driver, which increases traffic safety. The innovation should appeal to both private customers and companies with a fleet of commercial vehicles. The automatic transmission smooths out the operation of the start/stop system, has a different clutch design and complies with the Euro VIE certificate for severe operating conditions.

Automatic versions are available for all modifications: chassis, vans and minibuses with different wheelbase lengths, roof heights and body configurations. However, the main intrigue remains: there are no prices for the Peugeot Boxer with an automatic yet.
