Porsche recalls all Taycan electric cars sold over four years

The German brand has admitted that brake hoses on sedans and estates can crack, causing fluid to leak. The defect can affect braking performance; Porsche Taycans sold worldwide will have to be diagnosed by dealers. According to the automaker, only one percent of electric cars have the problem: the hoses will be replaced free of charge in a couple of hours.

Porsche emphasizes that electric vehicles are safe to drive, and that a brake fluid leak is always accompanied by an indicator on the dashboard. If the indicator light turns red, the Taycan should be immediately towed to a dealership, otherwise there are no restrictions.

The total number of electric vehicles affected by the recall is not disclosed, but in the North American market alone, almost 32,000 Porsche Taycans are at risk. Dealers began replacing defective brake hoses on May 13. According to Porsche, the problem is not related to the quality of the components: on some electric vehicles, the brake lines may simply experience increased stress at the bending points.

The Porsche Taycan family was completely updated in the first quarter. The extreme Turbo GT version is now at the top of the range, while the Sport Turismo station wagons are no longer offered in all markets.
