The press service of the North American branch of the concern confirmed that as of June 20, shipment of the Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX models has been stopped and sales have been paused. The reason is a defect in the curtain airbags: the curtain on the driver’s side may not open in the event of an accident. All Japanese crossovers released in almost ten months are at risk – there are about 145 thousand of them!

The reasons for the incorrect operation of the curtain airbags have not yet been established, so the recall campaign will not be launched until August. By this time, Toyota expects to have found a solution to the problem and provided dealers with appropriate instructions. In the meantime, the United States has stopped issuing cars that have already been paid for and delivered.

New Lexus GX: frame, 33-inch wheels and turbo engine New Toyota Camry Toyota hinted at mass production of the Lexus supercrossover

Production of the Toyota Grand Highlander began in August last year, and in the fall the “related” Lexus TX was added to the range. Both models are available with a three-row cabin, conventional or hybrid powertrains based on a 2.4-liter turbo-four. The pace of production is impressive: in less than a year, total circulation approached 150 thousand pieces!

The base Toyota Grand Highlander costs about 45 thousand dollars (3.93 million rubles) in the USA, the overpayment for the Lexus TX is at least 10 thousand dollars (880 thousand rubles). However, in Russia, Japanese crossovers are much more expensive: “gray” importers offer a new Toyota for 11 million rubles!
