The results of sales of new cars in April 2024 are surprising in their own way: for the first time in Russia, the list of best-selling cars does not include products from European, Korean, Japanese or American brands. The top 50 were captured by Russian cars and products from China. There is one exception: the Solaris HS, which is technically a domestic model, but copies the Hyundai Solaris.

In just over two years, the Russian car market has changed radically: now the top 10 best-selling models are not Kia Rio, Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Polo and Renault Duster, but Haval Jolion, Chery Tiggo 7, Omoda C5 and Geely Monjaro. Only the first lines are stable: they are occupied by Lada Granta and Lada Vesta, which were less affected by political turbulence.

The most popular non-Chinese foreign car (if we leave the Solaris HS out of the equation) at the end of April was the Hyundai Tucson at 57th place in the Autostat rating. Next came the Toyota Camry and Kia Sportage, the BMW X5 in 61st place, then the Lexus RX and Toyota RAV4. You will have to look for “Americans” closer to the end of the first hundred, because the Chevrolet Monza in 79th place is essentially “Chinese” and is going to China.

The collapse in sales of “real” foreign cars is due to an increase in recycling collection: in April, car imports fell by a third compared to March. But AvtoVAZ is doing great: the Volzhsky Automobile Plant closed the month with a record for 12 years of sales, increasing its share in the Russian market to almost 33%. The head of the auto giant is lobbying for a further increase in recycling collection.
