Skoda refuses to sell the new Kodiaq crossover in the Chinese market
It seems that the Czech automaker Skoda is preparing to leave the Chinese market, which has long been considered one of the most important and promising areas for its development. This was reported by Automotive News Europe with reference to a number of indirect signs.
Firstly, Skoda has decided not to bring its new second-generation Kodiaq crossover to the Chinese market. This information was confirmed by the head of the company, Klaus Zellmer, but he did not talk about the reasons not to sell Kodiak in China. Secondly, Skoda sales in the Middle Kingdom have been steadily declining since 2019 due to increasing competition. Note that this year the brand sold 52% fewer cars in August than in August last year. All this may indicate that VW, which owns Skoda, is preparing to leave the Chinese market.
According to experts, Volkswagen can focus in China on promoting its own VW brand, refusing to waste resources on Skoda. However, an official decision on leaving has not yet been made or it has simply not been announced. Let us remind you that the world premiere of the updated Skoda Kodiaq took place in early October in Berlin. The car is offered with 5 petrol and diesel engines with power ranging from 150 to 204 horsepower. But the Chinese consumer, it seems, will be left without this new product. (photo: Skoda)
