Las Vegas-based startup Halo Car is developing its own self-driving technology, which is radically different from what most people do. The idea is to remotely pilot cars, that is, these are not drones that move independently, navigating in space with the help of leaders, radars and cameras.

Using remote control, the cars will deliver to customers anywhere at any time. As part of a pilot project, Halo Car drones can be used to travel around downtown Las Vegas. The startup is currently testing the Bolt EV and Kia Niro EV electric vehicles. The rental price is $ 12 per hour (~ 1000 rubles).

During delivery to customers, the vehicles will be controlled by trained operators using a remote interface. Operators are located at the company’s headquarters.

Halo Car drones are equipped with special hardware, including cameras, sensors and antennas. T-Mobile’s 5G network ensures seamless system operation, while Verizon and AT&T communications technologies are used to enhance stability. Thanks to Halo Car technology, the system can choose the strongest signal. This is very important to ensure stable communication with the remote vehicle.

At first, there were drivers in the salons of drones, whom the “surveillance” car picked up upon arrival at the client. Since June 29, they have been removed, but the “surveillance” remains. If necessary, for example, in the event of an emergency, the drone can be stopped. In 2024, the company plans to remove such insurance and increase the delivery area.

In the future, the startup plans to expand its service to other US cities. Austin, New York and Atlanta are on the list of potential cities.
