Stellantis-affiliated Leapmotor has launched the new C16 in China. It combines familiar looks with all-electric or range-extending powertrains.

Starting from the outside, the model follows in the footsteps of the smaller C10. The result is soft curves, flush door handles and LED headlights and taillights. These are joined by a panoramic glass roof and 20-inch alloy wheels.

In terms of dimensions, the crossover is 4915 mm long, 1905 mm wide and 1770 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2825 mm. For comparison, the C16 is 94 mm shorter than the Kia EV9.

The interior is minimalist in design, with nothing but a digital instrument cluster, a floating central display and a steering wheel. However, the six-seater is well-equipped, with leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control and a 15W wireless smartphone charger.

More expensive variants will get a three-zone climate control system, as well as heated and ventilated seats in the first and second rows. Customers can also get a premium audio system with 21 speakers, a 15.6-inch rear-seat entertainment system, and the Pilot intelligent driver assistance system, which uses a lidar sensor.

The range-extending variant of the C16 will feature a 1.5-liter engine, a 28.4 kWh battery pack, and a rear-mounted electric motor producing 228 hp (170 kW) and 320 Nm of torque. This allows the crossover to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and travel up to 200 km on electricity alone.

The second version will be a fully electric variant, which is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 67.7 kWh. It feeds an upgraded engine with an output of 288 hp (215 kW) and 360 Nm of torque. Thanks to the extra power, the electric car can accelerate to 100 km / h in 6.4 seconds, and the range reaches 520 km.
