Subaru has finally officially unveiled its latest WRX Project Midnight. After a series of teasers, we finally have all the specs for this powerful beast. It is an evolution of the Airslayer Gymkhana racer and produces 670 horsepower.

On paper, Project Midnight is a monster. It uses a 2.0-liter flat-four engine to produce 670 horsepower (499 kW) and 665 pound-feet (920 Nm) of torque at 9,500 rpm. It sends that power to all four wheels, which are wrapped in 280-wide Yokohama slicks.

Project Midnight shares many of its features with the 2020 Airslayer Gymkhana, which set several records and performed a variety of stunts, including a 70-meter jump. The new car is 135 kg lighter than the Airslayer and 454 kg lighter than the standard WRX.

“Subaru Motorsports USA and the Vermont SportsCar team have created an absolute beast. It clearly has rallycross roots, but the wider tires, track, and chassis give it a completely unique feel and incredible grip. It’s the perfect car to drive,” said racer Scott Speed, who tested the car.

Subaru really does look like it’s turning into just another brand that shows us cool stuff at car events and then never delivers that cool stuff to actual customers.
