Suzuki to halve UK car range

In order for the brand and its dealer network to comply with UK and EU laws, the carmaker is prepared to significantly cut the range. By the end of the year, four models will be removed from the configurator: Swift Sport, Jimny LCV, Ignis and Swace. Thus, Suzuki buyers will be able to choose between the regular Swift, S-Cross, Vitara and Across, that is, the number of Suzukis available to order will be reduced by almost half.

A Suzuki spokesman said that the abandonment of the above models “will make room for electric vehicles and allow them to compete in a period when battery-electric vehicles will generate the bulk of their profits.” However, there is a caveat: Suzuki currently has no “pure” electric cars in Europe, and its plug-in hybrids are rebadged Toyotas.

Suzuki’s UK office insists that the post-petrol era will begin in the second half of 2025: by that time, “global” electric cars will debut, and the next-generation Swift will be offered in Europe. The Japanese brand also intends to focus on SUVs, but the current Jimny has long been out of compliance with fuel economy standards, and the updated hybrid model is still only a project.

Suzuki’s sales driver could be a serial electric crossover converted from the eVX concept car. It is expected that the new product will have dual-motor all-wheel drive, a 60-kilowatt-hour battery and a power reserve of up to 500 kilometers on the WLTC cycle.
