Tens of thousands of Tesla Cybertrucks need inspection again

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has notified a recall of 11,688 electric pickup trucks with a defective large windshield wiper. Another 11,383 Cybertrucks can have their cargo bed trim detached right on the road. In the first case, problems were found in cars manufactured from November 2023 to June 2024, in the second – from November to May.

NHTSA notes that the Cybertruck’s front wiper motor controller may fail due to excessive current flow. The Tesla service will replace the windshield wiper motor for free for owners of electric pickup trucks.

The mechanics will also additionally secure the Cybertruck body trim parts, which can become detached while driving and create an emergency situation.

Last week, Tesla had to halt deliveries of the Cybertruck due to technical problems with the giant windshield wiper’s motor. The electric pickup has only one windshield wiper, and it stretches almost the entire width of the large windshield, and at rest is located along the left pillar.

Previously, Tesla recalled pickup trucks in April: almost four thousand vehicles were affected, the gas pedal of which could fall off and become stuck.

Tesla introduced the Cybertruck in 2019 and spent a long time preparing for deliveries, which began only at the end of 2023. Last fall, the head of the company, Elon Musk, even said that he “dug his own grave with Cybertruck” and added that it is a niche product that is incredibly difficult to bring to market and make it profitable.
