In the first quarter of 2024, cars of Chinese brands increased in price by 9.3 percent, to an average of 3.06 million rubles, Avito Auto calculated. At the same time, the demand for new cars from China has increased by more than two and a half times. The most popular are the models of the new “Big Three”, which include Chery, Haval and Geely. They account for 14.7, 14.5 and 14.2 percent of Chinese sales. Also in the top 5 were Omoda and Jetour.

The most noticeable increase in price for GAC cars was in the first quarter: their price increased by an average of 52 percent, to 4.3 million rubles. The maximum drop in value was observed in premium Hongqi (minus 54.5 percent).

As for the most popular brands, compared to the first quarter of 2023, Chery increased its price by 13.3 percent (average cost – 3.2 million rubles). Geely became more expensive by 20.4 percent (3.5 million), but Haval prices remained at approximately the same level – 2.6 million rubles.

As demand and prices increase, supply also increases. The number of Chinese cars presented at Avito Auto increased by 266 percent over the year. Chery leads the growth in advertisements (plus 18.5 percent), followed by Geely and Haval (plus 15.5 percent and plus 15.1 percent).

Meanwhile, more and more Russian departments are switching to Chinese cars. Black Hongqi H9s with military license plates were spotted on the streets of Moscow: judging by the “MO” prefix, they belong to the motor depot of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the General Staff. Previously, military leaders drove a Toyota Camry.
