The Golf R is the last in the family to undergo restyling: the design of the exterior and interior has finally been declassified, as well as details about the “filling” of the hot hatch. It received the same version of the two-liter turbo engine that is installed on the anniversary Golf R 20 Years Edition, became more powerful and 0.2 seconds faster when accelerating to “hundreds”, and the manual transmission, which was offered only in the USA, was finally excluded from the range.

The changes in the exterior design are the same as for the rest of the Golfs: there were modernized optics, which are now connected in front by a luminous strip, and a backlit corporate logo also appeared. The R-version features a developed aerodynamic body kit, 18-inch lightweight Warmenau wheels of an original design and a four-pipe exhaust system, the sound of which has been improved for a “more sporty driving experience.”

Options include an Akrapovic titanium exhaust and IQ.Light matrix headlights. The Golf-R will also have a “very black” Black Edition with darkened decor, which is captured in the official photographs shared by Volkswagen.

Inside, there is a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with new menus, improved graphics, IDA voice assistant and built-in ChatGPT. In addition, the “charged” Golf received sports seats with an embroidered R logo.

Volkswagen itself calls the updated Golf R the most powerful in the history of the model. The two-liter turbo engine develops 333 horsepower instead of 320 horsepower in the pre-reform Golf R, while the torque remains the same – 420 Nm. The gearbox is now without alternative, and it is a seven-speed DSG robot. All-wheel drive with individual side couplings for connecting the rear wheels. By default, the R version has DCC adaptive dampers.

From zero to 100 kilometers per hour, the updated Volkswagen Golf R accelerates in 4.6 seconds versus the previous 4.8 seconds. The maximum speed, as before, is limited to 250 kilometers per hour. For the Performance version, the limiter was moved to 270 kilometers per hour and two new driving presets were added: track Special and Drift.

Prices have already been announced: the hatchback will cost Europeans 53.8 thousand euros, and the station wagon – 55.1 thousand euros. This is equivalent to five and 5.2 million rubles, respectively.
