HWA has presented the long-awaited modernized version of the iconic Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II. Known simply as the Evo, this restomod was revealed in a series of renderings late last year, with the first example set to go up for auction at the end of July.

Each of the 100 examples that are going to be produced will be based on the original body of the Mercedes-Benz 190E. However, it was completely refurbished, including the replacement of the front and rear power elements. The body panels, made of carbon fiber, imitate the shape of the original 190 E 2.5-16 Evo II.

The original car was equipped with a 2.6-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine. But HWA decided to use a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6, also from Mercedes-Benz, as its basis. The power unit received a dry sump lubrication system and was retuned, which increased output to 444 hp. and 549 Nm as standard or up to 493 hp. with the same torque with the optional Affalterbach package.

The engine is located behind the front axle, providing an ideal 50:50 weight distribution. It is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, sending torque to the rear wheels. The standard model reaches a top speed of 270 km/h, while the Affalterbach package increases it to 298 km/h.

There’s also been extensive work on the suspension, with double wishbones front and rear and a set of manually adjustable KW shock absorbers. More sophisticated KW shock absorbers with electronic adjustment are reserved for versions with the Performance package.

HWA also installed 380 mm (15 in) brake discs with six-piston calipers at the front and 360 mm (14.1 in) discs with four-piston calipers at the rear. Ceramic brakes are available for an additional cost.

The wheel arch extensions, distinctive front splitter and high wing look very cool and also serve aerodynamic purposes: HWA aims for a maximum downforce of 80 kg at 200 km/h. It may not sound like much, but it’s better than nothing.

HWA has not yet released images of the car’s interior, but inside will be a digital instrument cluster that visually replicates the original car’s instrumentation, Recaro seats and smartphone integration.

As mentioned, only 100 units will be made, and approximately 75% of them have already been sold. Prices start from 714,000 euros (68 million rubles).
