The Moscow Metro acquired an 18-ton armored car “Akhmat”

The Telegram channel “Buses and in General” shared photos of bulletproof trucks with unusual color schemes. One of the vehicles is Z-STS (unofficial name “Akhmat”) on a KamAZ-5350 chassis, the second is “Buran” on GAZ-3308 “Sadko” units. Judging by the abbreviations on the sides, both armored cars belong to private security and are responsible for the safety of the metro.

For the first time, the strengthening of the divisions of the State Unitary Enterprise “Moscow Metro” became known a month and a half ago: “Buran” is registered precisely under this organization. And now colleagues have photographed a more serious armored car – 3-STS – in the same parking lot in the center of the capital.

“Akhmat” is almost twice as heavy as the RIDA product (total weight is 18 tons versus ten), and the six-wheeled truck does not try to seem “civilian”: 3-STS was developed by Remdizel for the needs of the Russian Guard and the army. The armored car is capable of withstanding an explosion with a power of up to six kilograms of TNT, and the design provides for the installation of automatic weapons.

Why the Moscow metro needs heavy armored vehicles is still unknown. There is no information in open sources about large purchases of Burans, but Akhmats have managed to become widespread: by the end of 2022, the Central Military District alone received more than 150 of these special vehicles.
