The new budget compact MPV Honda Freed impressed with the transformation of its interior

A presentation of a multifunctional compact model 2024 took place in Japan. The new Honda Freed features a more restrained exterior design and three interior layout options, but retains the e:HEV hybrid powertrain. The compact van is available in two versions: Air and Crosstar. The difference is in the body kit, finishing materials and the number of rows of seats.

Little-known Honda models that everyone forgot about

The new Honda Freed retains the wheelbase of its predecessor (2740 mm), but the body is completely new – it has become 4.5 centimeters longer (4310 mm) and two centimeters higher (1755 mm). The basic compact van in the Crosstar version is distinguished by a black plastic body kit, metal inserts on the rear bumper and simplified headlights – fog lights are installed at the bottom of the bumper.

As standard, the single-volume vehicle has a five-seater interior and a huge trunk with an entire section under the floor. If you fold down the rear sofa, you can create a flat space for a double bed. The chairs are covered with a special waterproof fabric; there are factory solutions with holders for hooks and sections for small items.

An alternative is the Honda Freed in the Air version, which has a six-seater interior with separate second-row seats. This compact van has mirrors and bumpers in body color, different headlights, but there are no fewer possibilities for transformation: you can create two berths by folding out the seats, or you can fold the gallery seats to the sides, creating a large opening.

In any case, the new product has a different virtual “tidy”, a media system with an 11.4-inch touchscreen, and there is no central tunnel. There is no information about the filling yet, but the e:HEV inscriptions hint at the development of a parallel-hybrid system with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. A full list of configurations and prices, as well as details about the equipment will be revealed in June.

The main thing about the global fuel crisis

Probably, the basic Honda Freed with a naturally aspirated engine and CVT will cost about 2.5 million yen ($16 thousand), and for the top hybrid version with a three-motor power plant and all-wheel drive they will ask about 3.5 million yen ($22.5 thousand ).
