Basic versions of the Volkswagen Golf in a restyled version were presented back in January, later the GTI version, iconic for the model, was shown, and the hottest new product was the powerful front-wheel drive GTI Clubsport, which was shown at the end of May at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring marathon. The flagship all-wheel drive Golf R will be declassified on June 26, but for now the first details about the model have appeared. The main thing is that the hatchback will become more powerful and will receive the status of the most “charged” car in the history of the model.

The new Golf R will receive an upgraded 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine with 330 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. This is 15 horsepower and 15 Nm more than the previous Golf R. There are also rumors about a more powerful Golf R Clubsport, but there is no information on this yet. The new product will be able to accelerate from zero to first hundred in 4.8 seconds and in 4.6 seconds with the optional Performance Package. The hatchback’s top speed is limited to 250 kilometers per hour, but the Performance Package will push the limit to 270 kilometers per hour.

All-wheel drive with traction vectoring will be the basic equipment, as will a 7-speed DSG robotic gearbox, which will be the only transmission option – the model has lost its “mechanics”, like all new Volkswagen Golfs. A Drift Performance Profile mode is promised, in which up to 100% of traction can go to the rear wheels, and for improved cornering behavior, torque vectoring technology can send up to 100% of the power to the outside wheel to reduce understeer.

The new Golf R will feature Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), which adjusts steering, suspension and throttle response settings in an integrated manner as standard. Modified bumpers, new headlights and IQ.Light lights with a 3D pattern, special 18- and 19-inch wheels will become a distinctive feature of the exterior of the new product, and a 12.9-inch multimedia touch screen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel will appear in the cabin with special R-graphics, lap time and overload sensors.
