A new product of the Russian automobile industry and another example of Russian-Chinese badge engineering, the Xcite X-Cross 7 crossover (aka the Chinese Chery Tiggo 7 Pro of the 2020 model), has already been shipped to car dealerships. Alexander Shaprinsky, director of the Pragmatika dealer network, told Rossiyskaya Gazeta about this. He also confirmed that the start of sales is indeed scheduled for May 27, 2024. The model, we recall, is produced at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg.

The Xcite X-Cross 7 is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine with 147 horsepower and a CVT, and it has front-wheel drive. There will be two trim levels and six body colors to choose from. The model differs from the original Chery Tiggo 7 Pro only in nameplates and Russian “registration”, since until recently the original crossover was supplied to us from China. Tiggo 7 Pro itself, by the way, has already been removed from Chery’s official website, freeing up a market niche for X-Cross 7.

A few days earlier, the telegram channel “Avtopotok” wrote that the official website of the Xcite brand had launched in Russia, but at the time of writing the news, the page was not opening.

As for the former Nissan plant, where the new model was registered, after the departure of the Japanese brand, the production capacity was transferred to us. The site was renamed “Avtozavod St. Petersburg” and first they set up a “screwdriver” assembly of the X-Cross 5 model under the Lada brand – the FAW Bestune T77 was taken as the basis. However, the cooperation between AvtoVAZ and FAW did not work out and the project was canceled, so the model never went on sale.

Later, AvtoVAZ withdrew from the ownership of the St. Petersburg plant and a new brand, Xcite, was launched, which is called “the first own project in the new history of the enterprise.” For obvious reasons, there is no mention of a partnership with Chery.
