The updated Volkswagen Golf R has received a number of important changes

Volkswagen presented the updated Golf R and Golf R Variant. Like the GTI, the top-end Golf R gets a new front end with an illuminated Volkswagen logo.

The hatchback and estate stand out with matte chrome mirrors, sporty side skirts and 18- or 19-inch wheels. The model also features new rear lights, as well as a glossy black diffuser and an exhaust system with four tailpipes.

Buyers who prefer a sportier appearance can opt for the new 19-inch Warmenau forged alloy wheels, which weigh just 8kg each. This makes them approximately 20% lighter than traditional wheels and helps reduce unsprung weight.

Speaking of options, the Golf R can be equipped with an Akrapovic titanium exhaust, upgraded IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights and new LED taillights with dynamic flashing function. Customers can also get the Golf R Black Edition with dark logos and a selection of black components, including wheels, brake calipers and exhaust tips. The Black Edition is also standard on the Performance Package.

The updates continue inside, with the Golf R featuring a new 12.9-inch infotainment system. In addition to the larger display, the system has a new menu structure and improved graphics. Drivers will see an improved 10.2-inch digital instrument panel with G-force and GPS timer displays for models equipped with the Performance Package.

Other changes include improved climate control, a sports steering wheel with “optimized” buttons, a new IDA voice assistant, and access to ChatGPT.

The Golf R features sports seats and faux carbon fiber trim. Other features include blue accents, stainless steel pedals and a 30-color ambient lighting system.

Under the hood is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine that has been upgraded and now produces 328 hp. (245 kW) and 420 Nm of torque. This is an increase of 13 hp. (10 kW), which is the same as the Golf R 333 Limited Edition.

The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring technology. This allows the Golf R to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. When equipped with the Performance package, they can reach a top speed of up to 270 km/h.

European sales will begin in June, and the US version of the Golf R will be introduced early next year.
