Toyota showed the Hyper-F concept SUV at the 2024 Bangkok Motor Show, based on the production Fortuner.
Developed by TCD Asia (Toyota Customizing & Development) in Thailand, it has undergone extensive visual changes that make the Fortuner concept look like a track car. The front end gets a massive grille, large air intakes, a splitter and a vented bonnet.
Other changes include fender flares, custom wheels wrapped in Dunlop tires, and deeper side skirts that house the exhaust pipes. The rear is also wild, boasting a massive diffuser, as well as aerodynamic extensions on the fenders and rear spoiler.
Inside, the standard Fortuner’s three-row, seven-seat layout has been replaced by four individual bucket seats.
A number of high-tech materials were supplied by Japanese companies Mitsui Chemicals and APRK Corporation. These include TAFNEX CF/PP, a carbon fiber-reinforced polypropylene resin, while other components were 3D printed directly from plastic pellets.
There are no details on the Hyper-F’s performance specs, so what’s under the hood remains a mystery. The company describes it as a “high-performance concept car,” so it likely has some power upgrades to match its wild looks. The concept also features lowered suspension and upgraded brakes.
The current generation Toyota Fortuner debuted in 2015 and received a facelift in 2020. The Hilux-based model is a direct competitor to other three-row body-on-frame SUVs such as the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Isuzu MU-X.
The sportiest and most powerful version of the Fortuner is the GR Sport trim, which is currently available in Thailand. In addition to a more aggressive appearance, the Fortuner GR Sport is equipped with a more powerful 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine producing 221 hp (165 kW) and 550 Nm of torque, which matches the Australian Hilux GR Sport.
