With the support of the American branch of the brand, the Californian tuning studio Evasive Motorsports is developing a prototype car with unique technology. Blogger Larry Chen reported the details on his YouTube channel. Serious modifications are required: they are going to “marry” the chassis and power plant of the GR Corolla with the GR86 body! There is no information about mass production of the all-wheel drive Toyota coupe.

The Toyota GR86 was conceived as a rear-wheel drive sports car with a low center of gravity and a naturally aspirated engine. And although there is a demand for a more powerful all-wheel drive car with a turbo engine, it is not easy to implement the idea in the format of a relatively budget coupe. The difficulties are demonstrated by the Evasive Motorsports and Toyota project.

Placing a transverse in-line turbo engine instead of a longitudinal boxer engine turned out to be difficult: it was necessary to make the front subframe from scratch, reconsider the attachment points of the units, and remake the chassis. Some parts are custom: not everything from the GR Corolla and GR Yaris fits. The power structure of the body has also been redone.

The result will be shown in the fall at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, but most likely in this form the prototype has no prospects for serial production. However, a technically close coupe with a 1.6 G16E-GTS “turbo-three”, “mechanics” and all-wheel drive may well appear in the future, because the GR Yaris and GR Corolla hatchbacks are in stable demand.
