The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant plans to restart mass production of engines of the Euro-5 environmental class next year. Gazeta.Ru writes about this with reference to the press service of the Sollers company, which owns the UAZ. Today, SUVs with such an eco-class are not available, and it is not yet possible to order them, although they are listed in the price lists on the manufacturer’s website.
Now the plant is in the process of certifying Euro-5 cars with new engine control units, the press service said. Mass production of such machines will begin in 2024 “in full compliance with technical regulation requirements.”
What the cost of the more environmentally friendly “Patriot” and “Pickup” will be when they return to the market is still unknown. The “Patriot” with a 2.7-liter ZMZ 409051 gasoline engine of Euro-5 class is priced at a minimum of 1,550,000 rubles in the price lists, excluding 50 thousand for delivery to the dealer. A “pickup” with the same engine costs from 1,575,000 rubles.
Last year, UAZ began selling cars with Euro-0 class engines: the authorities temporarily allowed the production of units of an outdated standard in order to support manufacturers. Now “Patriot” and “Pickup” are offered with Euro-2 engines.
In 2024, Ulyanovsk residents also intend to return the diesel engine to the Patriot. But this will not be the old 2.2-liter ZMZ 51432, but a two-liter Chinese JAC unit. Its production is organized at the former Ford engine plant in Yelabuga, owned by Sollers. The car is also promised a six-speed manual transmission from the same JAC and restyling.
