In South Africa, the range of four-door cars has been expanded: from now on, buyers can choose between the proven naturally aspirated 1.6 (110 hp, 152 Nm) and the modern supercharged 1.0 engine (116 hp, 178 Nm). A three-cylinder unit has long been offered on the Volkswagen Polo in Europe, but in developing countries this option was only available in India (on the “sister” Virtus model).

Buyers from South Africa will have to pay at least 421 thousand rand (2.1 million rubles) for the turbo version of the Volkswagen Polo. For this money, the sedan will have a rich Life package and a 6-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle will be 6.3 liters per 100 kilometers, and acceleration from 0-100 will take 11.5 seconds.

Sales of an analogue of the Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Polo from China have begun in Russia. Sales of “real” foreign cars have collapsed in Russia: they are not in the top 50. Volkswagen has begun sales of a simplified Polo hatchback.

The new top-end Style package with chrome trim, 17-inch wheels, a rain sensor, leatherette trim and a sunroof is available only with a turbo engine. For such a sedan you will have to pay 455 thousand rand (2.26 million rubles). For comparison, a basic manual Volkswagen Polo with a naturally aspirated 1.6, air conditioning and a simplified seven-inch diagonal media system costs 360.5 thousand rand (1.8 million rubles).

A year and a half ago, the boss of Volkswagen predicted the imminent retirement of the “global” Polo, but the easing of Euro-7 economic standards made it possible to keep the model in the lineup. The German automaker has confirmed that the Polo will remain in the range until the end of the decade and will even be updated to keep up with the times.
