A representative of the German concern said that the current version of the ID.3 may remain the only one in the model line, since the brand’s engineers have begun work on a new generation of the legendary Golf, which in the ninth iteration will completely switch to electric propulsion.
The ninth generation all-electric Golf will be assembled at the group’s car plant in Wolfsburg. The battery hatchback will be built on a new modular architecture, which is still under development. It is expected that the electric successor to the iconic model, which will receive many “smart” solutions, will debut in 2026.
At the same time, Volkswagen technical development director Kai Grünitz said that there is not enough room in the automotive market for two battery models of the same class that will be of interest to the same customers. In this regard, the top manager does not exclude that the electric Golf may cause the cessation of production of the ID.3. However, for now, the specialist urged not to look ahead, since engineers have just begun work on creating the ninth generation hatchback.
Last week, Volkswagen officially unveiled the updated Golf hatchback. The restyled model received a hybrid version with an increased power reserve.
