We already know that BMW is currently working on a whole line of electric vehicles: it plans to release six electric models of the Neue Klasse family within two years, starting in 2025. Moreover, this will be a completely new family that will have practically nothing in common with the current models of the concern. Among them there will also be inexpensive compact models i1 and i2. We at Motor asked digital artist Nikita Chuiko to imagine what the youngest electric car in the BMW line would look like.

Two weeks ago, Motor already told the details of BMW’s electric vehicle strategy for the coming years.

Let us remind you that BMW is working on a family of electric vehicles under the symbol “Neue Klasse” on a completely new, purely electric platform. More precisely, within the framework of this architecture, two platforms are being developed at once – one for compact, the other for mid-size models. It is known that middle-class models on the NAx platform will be the first to go into production. Most likely, they are anticipated by recent concept cars: the Vision Neue Klasse sedan and the Vision Neue Klasse X crossover.

These concept electric cars give us a pretty clear idea of BMW’s future design language. We asked digital artist Nikita Chuyko to take a closer look at these mockups to use their design as a starting point to imagine what the smallest electric car in the BMW lineup might look like.

The designer suggested that the front design and laconic sidewalls shown on the Vision Neue Klasse sedan will be common to all passenger models of the new family. Well, and the rear solution on the hatchback will probably be close to the Vision Neue Klasse X crossover.

At the same time, the glazing line on such a small car should clearly look different than on mid-size cars. In his sketches, the artist reproduced the waistline graphics, already familiar to us from the two generations of BMW X2 crossovers. He also refused exotic retractable handles – having decided that a compact and inexpensive car would be better suited to simple recessed door handles (which are already used on half of BMW models, from the X1 to the fifth series).

Did Nikita and I manage to guess the direction of BMW’s design? We believe that this will become clear within a year: the Bavarians are probably already preparing new concept cars that will prepare buyers for the release of electric compacts.
