In 2024, GLONASS will create a technology that will allow you to monitor a car and help you find it in case of theft, RIA Novosti reports, citing the company’s general director Alexei Raikevich. The movement of the car will be monitored only with the consent of the owner, he notes. The ERA-GLONASS units themselves will not increase in price significantly.

Next year, ERA-GLONASS will “provide monitoring” of cars and begin to help in their search. To do this, you will need to update the panic button firmware. There will be no need to change the hardware, Raykevich said.

According to him, since the beginning of 2023, the company has received several thousand requests for help in finding stolen cars. Therefore, it was decided to add a new function, which “will be a continuation of the line of services that do not require the installation of additional equipment if there is an SOS button.”

The unit itself is deeply integrated into the car, and a car thief will not be able to quickly disable it. In addition, the system will automatically notify the owner of an attempt to disconnect.

The SOS button connected to ERA-GLONASS is mandatory for new cars and cars imported to Russia since 2017. As of mid-November 2023, there were 10 million vehicles with an emergency response system on the country’s roads. The Lada Vesta became the “anniversary” 10 millionth car with ERA-GLONASS.
