Cars.ru published a new American Made Index rating with hundreds of cars. They were judged on five criteria to determine how American they were: their position on the list was influenced by where they were assembled, the origin of the components, engine and transmission, and the number of US workers involved in the production. There were more Japanese cars in the top than American ones.
The first place in the ranking of the most American cars was taken by Tesla’s bestseller – Model Y. In addition to it, Tesla Model S and Model X (fourth and ninth places) are in the top 10. But Model 3 fell out of the top ten, although it was still in the lead in 2021. In addition to Tesla, there was a place in the “top” for the Jeep Gladiator pickup truck – it took eighth place.
Almost all other positions went to the “Japanese”: Honda Passport was in second, Honda Odyssey and Ridgeline were in fifth and sixth, Toyota Camry was in eighth, Lexus LX was in ninth. The German Volkswagen ID.4 stands apart, closing the top three.

There are nine Japanese cars in the second ten: three Toyotas, two Hondas and four Acuras. The only model of the American brand is the Dodge Ram 1500 Classic. The Tesla Model 3 was in 21st place, the Jeep Wranger was in 30th, the Ford Mustang was in 31st, and the Cadillac Escalade was in 40th.
Previously, the most reliable Toyotas of the last ten years were named. According to HotCars journalists, the best among them is the 2014 Camry. It is followed by the Venza of the same year and the C-HR released in 2020.
