Allowing debris to accumulate on the “inner” brake pad, hidden from view, can cause serious problems.
At the initial stages, when inexpensive repairs are still possible, this obstacle does not significantly affect the dynamics of the braking system. The wheel begins to heat up much later, and the front part is visible and accessible for a quick inspection, which allows you to diagnose problems on the disk with your finger. However, the rear part is not so easily accessible – you have to remove the wheel to inspect it.
As a result, the thin metal sheet of the skid plate becomes corroded, becomes warped over time, and begins to allow dirt to reach the rear of the brake caliper. Rust develops, holes form, and the brake system becomes unusable.
