“Behind the wheel”: three simple ways to speed up the warm-up of small-volume internal combustion engines in winter

Automotive experts remind drivers of some simple but effective ways to speed up engine warm-up during the cold season. These tips are especially relevant for owners of cars with a small engine displacement.

One option is to use special insulation to protect the pipes in the cold. Suitable, for example, is black thermal insulation for heating pipes, which can be carefully secured to the bumper grille. This will help turbocharged engines warm up faster, even while driving. Another traditional method is to install cardboard or a special cover in front of the radiator to limit the flow of cold air. The main thing is to monitor the readings of standard temperature sensors – warming up is completed when the thermometer needle reaches 60 degrees.

And the third trick is suitable for automatic transmissions – turn on the driving mode with the brake pedal pressed, creating additional load on the engine. This will also help the engine warm up to operating condition faster. Such simple tricks can significantly make life easier for car owners in the cold season and speed up engine warm-up. And proper warming up, in turn, extends the life of the motor. (photo: “Behind the wheel”)
