The F-150 is Ford’s undisputed best-seller in the American market, so any upgrade is a big deal. For the 2024 model year, Ford has made significant changes to the pickup’s equipment, refreshing its appearance and adding a new hinged tailgate.

First up, the F-150 gets an updated front end that includes different DRLs and a number of design packages. For example, the Black Appearance Package will be available on models from STX to Lariat, while the Platinum version will get blacked-out exterior and interior trim as standard.

At the rear, the changes are more than superficial. The most important innovation will be the new Pro Access tailgate, the central part of which can swing open like a regular door.

This is done so that owners can easily access the body, even when there is a trailer in the back. Pickups equipped with the Pro Access tailgate will also get a wider bumper that acts as a step.

The bed also offers a simple but common feature on American pickup trucks: a lockable box behind the passenger-side wheel well is standard on the 2024 F-150. Owners who do not select the Pro Power Onboard option will receive boxes on both sides of the body as standard.

The equipment will also include two driver assistance systems – Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist. The latter uses a backup camera and corner radars, allowing automatic coupling with a trailer. Using this feature, the pickup controls steering, speed and braking and can stop itself when the hitch is perfectly aligned.

Pro Trailer Backup Assist helps a pickup truck with a trailer move in reverse, doing it fully automatically. The driver only needs to indicate the direction in which he wants to continue driving.

A smart towbar can measure trailer weight to help drivers properly distribute cargo and reduce trailer sway. The 2024 F-150 can tow a trailer weighing more than 6 tons.

Under the hood there will be already known engines, including a 5.0-liter V8, a 3.5-liter V6 and a 2.7-liter EcoBoost, which has become a little more powerful, but we don’t know by how much.

A 12-inch front-facing touchscreen will be standard on all F-150s, and it will be the first vehicle in North America to offer access to Ford Stolen Vehicle Services, which can help locate your vehicle if it’s stolen.

Finally, the pickups will get BlueCruise 1.2, an updated version of the Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance package. It’s free for a 90-day trial, but then you’ll have to pay monthly or yearly to use it.
