The assembly site in the Kaluga region, which previously produced Volvo trucks, will be renamed, but will retain its profile: it will be relaunched with a new partner, and trucks will continue to be assembled there. The enterprise has a new owner – the Industrial Investments group of companies, associated with businessman Dmitry Strezhnev, the actual owner of the Ural plant.

Interfax found out that the party to the transaction will be the recently created Automobile Motor Society JSC, which considers Ural as one of the industrial partners and “also allows for the attraction of an Asian partner in the future.” The company is investing in the resumption of production at the site in Kaluga and will ensure a level of localization that “complies with legal requirements.”

An unnamed agency source said that in order to quickly restart the former Volvo plant, “the possibility of loading the capacity with the production of Russian-made trucks is being considered.” In the future, foreign partners will be attracted and the model will expand, and the level of localization will become higher. “Negotiations are already underway with several potential partners from Asian countries,” he added.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will help with the speedy restart of production at the Kaluga plant. The ministry reported that “options for further expansion of production and the range of products are being explored with all interested parties.”
