The legend of the Chinese auto industry is in no hurry to retire: the BAW BJ212 Sniper received a cosmetic upgrade and increased in price. The color range has been expanded, plastic linings have appeared on the wings; Otherwise, “two hundred and twelve” is unchanged. The basis of the SUV in the 1960s was the Soviet GAZ-69, but these days only the general concept remains of the original: the rest has been modernized.

The army and special services have not purchased BAW BJ212 for a long time, and private customers have not appreciated the new independent front suspension. Therefore, for now the only “hardcore” version of Sniper with a continuous axle at the front is available for order. The four-door all-metal body and the high-torque Mitsubishi turbo engine (211 horsepower, 320 Nm) became the only alternative.

Off-road capabilities are on par: ground clearance – 245 mm, approach angle – 47 degrees, departure angle – 35 degrees, and fording depth – 600 mm. Of course, there is a reduction gear and a rear differential lock. Part Time all-wheel drive, six-speed manual transmission. Mud tires are standard equipment.

After the upgrade, the BAW BJ212 will cost 105,900 yuan (equivalent to 1.42 million rubles), that is, an increase of about six percent. It is unknown whether more equipped all-terrain vehicles will return to the range and whether the further modernization program of the “two hundred and twelfth” has been paused.
